Many of us are familiar with the phrase "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue" but did you know the final point to the phrase ends with "and a sixpence in her shoe"? I love traditions as much as the next person, but even I felt behind on the times by not knowing the entire quote!
Here at WanderLovin Starling we love traditional and modern ways of incorporating fun memories into your ceremony so I wanted to break down the old phrase and brainstorm fun ideas of keeping with tradition. With any of the Old, New, Borrowed, or Blue items, you can choose to incorporate them into any part of your ceremony or days leading up to the ceremony day!
Something Old can mean finding new life and light in one of our lace dresses and wearing white during any of your rehearsals. You can also find Something Old from your loved ones. Many people have jewelry or other small trinkets they would love to give you that can be incorporated into your bouquet or decor. Finding people that are willing to part with significant items that will be incorporated into your wedding day is so special!
Something New can mean anything new to you! New doesn't have to mean flashy or expensive. We have 'New to you' options on our site for you to choose from! Something new can also mean treating yourself by stepping out of your style comfort zone and going for a bold or playful look by incorporating new jewelry or other accessories into your wedding day look. Something New also brings forth good wishes for the future couple.
Something Borrowed is a great reminder, especially after something New, that there is a Rental option here at WanderLovin Starling! One of the main reasons this business exists is to offer a way for brides to rent instead of having to buy everything outright for their weddings. Friends are also a great place to turn when looking to borrow something sentimental to carry with you on your special day.
Something Blue is a fun idea to play around with because the color blue has so many associations! We do have a blue tea length dress and blue "I Do" cupcake toppers available for purchase or rental! Something blue can also mean a blue ribbon tied somewhere or blue details on your shoes, jewelry, or other accessories. There are so many possibilities when playing with the color blue!
Sixpence in her shoe is such a fun ending to remind brides to invite a little luck into the finances of the happy couple! It's been quite a while since sixpence were in circulation so many brides choose to use a penny instead! Using a penny can be a fun way to showcase a certain year printed on the penny that may be significant in the life of the couple.
Wedding traditions are such a fun way to reflect on the past and send forth wishes for the future. I hope to be a part of your journey!
